Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has received a rare Sikorsky S-76A medevac helicopter as part of a charitable initiative, with an estimated value of up to $1.5 million, the Main Directorate of Intelligence reported on April 17.

The helicopter for Ukrainian intelligence operatives was transported from Canada as part of a charitable initiative by Helijet International, the Maple Hope Foundation, and the Ukrainian World Congress. The aircraft arrived on April 15.

“The cost of such a medevac ranges from 1 to 2 million Canadian dollars [$700 thousand to $1.5 million]. This is the first helicopter of its kind in Ukraine,” HUR wrote.

According to HUR, the Sikorsky S-76A is equipped with advanced medevac capabilities. It can carry four medics and one critically wounded patient, and is outfitted with defibrillators, a mechanical ventilator, and other essential medical equipment, enabling doctors to provide care during evacuation. The aircraft is capable of conducting medevac missions both day and night.

The commander of the HUR’s aviation unit, known by the call sign “Maestro,” said the agency has established a dedicated airborne medical evacuation unit, which now includes experienced special forces medics.

On April 15, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine reported that Japan’s Ministry of Defense will provide Ukraine with approximately 30 additional military vehicles. Six of which were delivered to Ukraine on April 10, 2025, after arriving in Poland.
