A Ukrainian resistance agent from the “Atesh” movement reportedly destroyed a vehicle belonging to Russia’s Akhmat  battalion during a nighttime sabotage operation in occupied Mariupol, the group announced on July 14.

According to ATESH, the vehicle was parked outside a building where the fighters were staying. The agent successfully planted and detonated an explosive device before safely withdrawing from the area.

The group released a statement mocking the Kadyrov-aligned unit and warning that such acts of resistance will continue:

“We send our regards to the puppet Kadyrovites—and especially to Aladdin’s Slippers  [a derogatory nickname]. Let us remind you that filming TikToks on Ukrainian soil is forbidden. Your illegal presence here will be punished by every means available,” the message read.

The Akhmat unit, affiliated with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, is known for its brutal tactics and flashy social media presence. Members of the unit are frequently deployed to reinforce Russian operations across Ukraine, especially in urban warfare zones.

Earlier, a vehicle carrying four officers from Russia’s Akhmat unit—part of the Chechen forces loyal to Ramzan Kadyrov—was destroyed in a blast on occupied Ukrainian territory.

The Akhmat Special Rapid Reaction Squad is a unit of the Russian Federal Guard, actually subordinated personally to the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov. The unit was created in 2009 to fight supporters of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Novaya Gazeta journalists have noted in investigations that Akhmat has been involved in kidnappings, torture and extrajudicial executions, and the unit is home to at least one secret prison. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Akhmat was ironically referred to as “tiktok-army” because its fighters did not participate in combat operations but filmed videos in the rear in which they simulated a fierce confrontation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
