Operators from Ukraine’s 413th Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion “Raid” employed loitering munitions to strike and eliminate a Russian Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system—destroying both the launcher and its command vehicle deep within contested lines.

Following real-time reconnaissance feeds from aerial drones, two suicide drones were dispatched: one targeted the radar antenna array, the other detonated amid the missile launcher, rendering the system inoperable.

“This operation demonstrates our growing ability to neutralize advanced air defenses deep in enemy lines,” a battalion spokesman said.

By knocking out this medium-range Buk-M1 system—capable of guiding multiple missiles against aircraft and drones simultaneously—Ukraine degraded Russia’s layered air-defense umbrella, freeing its own aerial assets to operate with reduced risk.

Earlier, a Ukrainian drone strike destroyed a Russian Buk-M1 system in Zaporizhzhia region, footage of which confirmed the kill and underscored Ukraine’s evolving drone warfare tactics.
