A 17-year-old Ukrainian boy, Vadym Davydenko, was killed in a violent incident in Dublin, just days after arriving in Ireland, The Irish Times reported on October 16.

The attack, involving a knife or bladed weapon, occurred at a residential facility in Donaghmede. Another teenage boy was injured but his condition was not life-threatening.

Gardaí (Irish police), emergency services, and the State Pathologist’s office have launched an investigation, with interviews from witnesses already underway.

The facility, which provides 24-hour care to young people seeking international protection, is offering additional support to residents and staff.

Irish government officials, including Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan, have expressed condolences, with Irish Prime Minister Taoiseach Micheál Martin describing the event as “shocking and saddening.”

Gardaí are focusing on a specific line of inquiry, including interviews with those present at the scene, as they work to understand the circumstances of the tragedy.

Previously, it was reported that the Irish film Sanatorium, directed by Gar O’Rourke and shot in Ukraine, has been selected as Ireland’s official submission for the 2026 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
