Ukrainian Titan Oleksii Novikov Shatters World Record With a 550 kg Deadlift

Ukrainian athlete and strongman, as well as an ambassador of the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksii Novikov has set a new world record in the 18-inch deadlift, lifting 550 kg (1,213 lbs) at an international competition in Barcelona, Spain on March 18.
His achievement surpassed the previous record, set by Estonian strongman Rauno Heinla in July 2023, by 10 kg (22,05 lbs).
According to the brigade’s press service, Novikov’s accomplishment is not just a sports achievement but also a symbol of resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people. The brigade congratulated Novikov and expressed gratitude to all those who support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Novikov competed without the use of additional supportive equipment, securing both the tournament victory and the new world record.
A video released by the brigade captures the moment he lifts the massive barbell under loud cheers, and after setting the record, the crowd erupted with chants of “Glory to Ukraine!”

Who is Oleksii Novikov?

Novikov, 29, is a decorated strongman competitor. He won the title of “World’s Strongest Man” in 2020 and has consistently ranked among the top competitors in the sport. He secured third place in the same competition in both 2022 and 2023.
He also claimed the title of “Europe’s Strongest Man” in 2022 and has been a multiple-time finalist in international strongman events, including the Arnold Strongman Classic and Giants Live competitions. His career includes several national and international records, reinforcing his status as one of the world’s top strength athletes.
Novikov’s record lift in Barcelona further solidifies his position in the sport and adds another milestone to Ukrainian strength athletics on the global stage.
