Ukrainian Troops Stall Russian Plans for Sumy Offensive, Zelenskyy Says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that special objectives set for the country’s defense forces in the Sumy direction last week have been fully achieved.
Speaking after a meeting on June 30 with military officials and the defense minister, Zelenskyy emphasized the continued intensity of fighting in eastern Ukraine, particularly near Pokrovsk.
“The front line, especially the Pokrovsk direction, remains extremely active. A significant concentration of Russian forces is there, with many assaults underway. I thank all our units and every soldier for their resilience,” he said.
Zelenskyy noted that the Sumy region had been discussed separately during the briefing. “A week ago, we set special tasks and concrete positions for our troops. As of today, these tasks have been fully completed. That’s important.”

According to the president, Russia’s offensive intentions in the Sumy region have not materialized. “The Russian plan for an offensive in Sumy is not being realized, and that is thanks to every Ukrainian unit operating in the area,” Zelenskyy said.
He also mentioned that Ukrainian forces continue active operations as part of the Kursk operation. He added that “for nearly 10 months now, the goal of the operation has been maintained.”
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian forces are holding the line in the Sumy region as Russia concentrated around 50,000 troops near the border, intensifying pressure on the northeastern front.
