US Announces New $200 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine
On July 29, 2024, the United States announced a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at up to $200 million. According to John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, the package includes air defense systems, HIMARS artillery ammunition, mortar rounds, and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
This aid will be provided under the US presidential authority to transfer weapons directly from US military stockpiles. Additionally, the Pentagon, through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, will supply further air defense systems, long-range strike capabilities, and anti-tank weapons.
The Pentagon detailed that the new package includes:
Ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS
Air defense munitions
RIM-7 air defense missiles
Electronic warfare equipment
155mm and 105mm artillery shells
120mm mortar rounds
Precision-guided aviation munitions
TOW anti-tank guided missiles
Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems
Small arms
This announcement follows the previous aid package of $225 million, which was announced on July 11, 2024, and included a Patriot air defense system. The new assistance continues to bolster Ukraine’s security and defense capabilities.
