US Bell Helicopters to Invest in Ukraine’s Defense Industry With New Helicopter Factory

American aerospace company Bell Helicopters has announced plans to invest in Ukraine’s industrial sector and establish a helicopter production facility within the country, as was reported on July 28 by Ukrainian Minister of Economy, Oleksiy Sobolev, on his official Facebook page.
According to Sobolev, the Ukrainian government is ready to support the initiative with effective tools designed to attract investors.
While technical consultations and evaluations remain in the early stages, the ambitious project could mark a new chapter in defense-industrial partnership between Ukraine and the United States, the Minister claimed.

The idea of producing Bell helicopters in Ukraine is not new. Earlier discussions considered the possibility of localizing the production of the civilian version of the UH-1 helicopter, but the project was never realized, Militarnyi claims.
Following the onset of the full-scale war, Bell Helicopters has ramped up efforts to promote its products for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In July 2024, during the Farnborough International Airshow, Bell officially proposed the combat modification of the versatile Bell 407M helicopter for Ukraine, Militarnyi reports.
Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian army aviation helicopters are now flying continuous, daily sorties to intercept and destroy Russian attack drones before they reach populated areas.
While Bell’s plans for Ukraine remain not fully defined, it is likely the company is initially targeting the military market, with potential future expansion into the civilian sector in the future.
