On May 7, US Vice President JD Vance stated that the United States will shift away from the idea of a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, focusing instead on long-lasting solutions.

Speaking at a forum hosted by the Munich Security Conference in Washington, Vance emphasized that the US is shifting its focus toward long-term solutions instead of temporary ceasefire arrangements, which Moscow has rejected.

“The Russians are saying that a 30-day ceasefire is not in our strategic interest,” Vance said. “So we are trying to move away from the obsession with a 30-day ceasefire and more toward what a long-term solution would look like.”

Vance also remarked that, while Russia seeks peace, the US believes Moscow’s demands in negotiations are excessive.

He noted that the next critical phase in the talks should involve direct communication between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda urged Donald Trump to increase economic pressure on Russia to end its war against Ukraine, believing Trump is uniquely positioned to push Russian leader Vladimir Putin into peace talks.
