US Rushes to Send Over 500 Interceptor Missiles for Patriot and NASAMS Systems to Ukraine
The United States is set to send more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials. These deliveries are expected to arrive in the coming weeks and are intended to meet Ukraine’s air defense needs through the end of the year.
A senior US official confirmed that the supply of these missiles is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The deliveries come amid continued concerns over the rising number of Russian drone and missile attacks.
The new shipment is expected to be part of a larger package of military assistance, valued at over $6 billion, which is being provided by the Biden administration. As part of this support, the US aims to deliver as much military aid as possible before January.
The US has also been considering additional ways to support Ukraine, including purchasing weapons from other countries, to ensure adequate supplies for the ongoing war. According to US officials, over $7 billion of the allocated military funding for Ukraine remains unspent, with more than $2 billion earmarked for long-term contracts to supply Ukraine with equipment.
