The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced the purchase of interceptors for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine in the amount of $2.2 billion to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs.

“This funding will be used to purchase interceptors for PATRIOT and NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine. As previously announced, the Biden Administration plans to accelerate delivery of these munitions by re-sequencing upcoming Foreign Military Sales deliveries for Ukraine,” the release stated.

As announced earlier, the Biden Administration intends to expedite the shipment of these weapons by adjusting the sequence of upcoming deliveries through Foreign Military Sales to Ukraine.

Earlier this summer, the US announced it would redirect all existing orders for Patriot air defense systems and interceptor missiles to Ukraine until it has the needed volume of air defense to defend itself against Russian strikes.
