US-Ukraine to Deepen Defense Ties After Trump-Zelenskyy Phone Talk on July 4

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, extending his congratulations to the American leader and the people of the United States on Independence Day.
According to Zelenskyy`s statement published via Telegram on July 4, he described the conversation as “very important and useful” for further cooperation between Kyiv and Washington.
The President thanked the United States for its support, which helps save Ukrainian lives and defend the country’s independence.

“We have achieved a great deal together with America and support all efforts to stop the killings and restore a normal, lasting, and just peace,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine supports US proposals for reaching peace.
During the conversation, the two leaders discussed the security situation, including Russian airstrikes on Ukraine and the broader frontline dynamics. Zelenskyy noted that Trump is well-informed about the situation and expressed gratitude for his attention to Ukraine.
Special focus was placed on air defense. The presidents agreed to work on strengthening Ukraine’s airspace protection and coordinated a meeting between their respective teams.

Other key topics included defense industry cooperation and joint projects with American companies.
“We are ready for direct projects with America and believe this is critically important for security, especially in the areas of drones and related technologies,” Zelenskyy stated.
The leaders also discussed mutual procurement, investment, diplomatic coordination, and continued joint efforts with other international partners.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a phone call lasting approximately one hour, during which they discussed Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and a range of broader geopolitical concerns.
