US Weapons From New Aid Pack Begin Arriving in Ukraine, White House Confirms

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has confirmed that Ukraine has begun receiving weapons from the new $1 billion military aid package announced by the United States last week.

“The aid to Ukraine is already flowing. They are receiving security assistance now,” Jean-Pierre said during a briefing.

She noted that she wanted to be “careful” about discussing the specific weapons being delivered due to operational security concerns.

“We want to make sure that we are providing them with the capabilities that they need to defend themselves,” Jean-Pierre said. “We’re hopeful that this will help them on the battlefield.”

The new aid package includes air defense systems, artillery ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons. The money will be allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The program stipulates that the US government enters into contracts with American defense companies for the production of new weaponry for Ukraine, rather than supplying equipment from its own stockpiles.

Previously, the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin confirmed that the United States is allocating 6 billion dollars for military aid to Ukraine within the USAI program. He made this statement at a press conference following the 21st meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues for Ukraine on April 26th.
