Vice President JD Vance: Zelenskyy Will “Get There Eventually” on Peace Deal for Ukraine

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated March 3 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “will get there eventually” in terms of engaging in a peace deal to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Vance made these comments during a pre-taped interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, prior to the announcement of a U.S. pause on military assistance to Ukraine.
“He showed a clear unwillingness to engage in the peace process that President Trump has said is the policy of the American people and of their president. That’s the real breakdown is, I think Zelenskyy wasn’t yet there. And I think, frankly, now still isn’t there, but I think he will get there eventually, he has to,” Vance said.
Vance’s remarks marked his first public comments regarding the Oval Office meeting on February 28, during which President Donald Trump criticized Zelenskyy.
When asked whether Zelenskyy could return to the White House if he expressed readiness to discuss a peace plan, Vance responded that if Zelenskyy presented “a serious proposal for how he was going to engage in the process,” the U.S. would be willing to engage in talks again.
“I think that if he called and had a serious proposal for how he was going to engage in the process. Look, there are details that really matter that we’re already working on with the Russians. We’ve talked with some of our allies, he needs to engage seriously on the details,” Vance stated.
