If Ukraine were to request Western countries, including Lithuania, to deploy troops, Vilnius would carefully consider the appeal, stated Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, as reported by LRT via RBC-Ukraine.

Such a decision, he explained, would involve consultations with allies, partners, and Ukraine to determine the best course of action.

“I would like to remind you that following the Paris Summit, where President Macron invited the President of Lithuania to discuss, among other things, the initiative for expanding military involvement in Ukraine in various forms, Lithuania did not rule out such a possibility,” he stated.

Budrys highlighted Lithuania’s established role as a regional security provider, contributing both diplomatically and through other means. “We must now deliberate on how this would take shape, adhering to a clear and specific stance communicated to the new US administration—that Lithuania is a security provider in the region, not merely a recipient. If the need arises, I have no doubt the Lithuanian flag will be present,” he affirmed.

Previously on January 13, Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė announced on X that Lithuania will transfer 4,500 drones worth €5 million ($5.1 million) to Ukraine.
