Zelenskyy Calls for Increased Diplomatic Pressure on Russia to End War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the urgent need for worldwide pressure on Russia to prompt it into considering an end to the ongoing war.
He emphasized that a resolution doesn’t solely rely on reclaiming all territories through military means. “It doesn’t mean that all territories are won back by force. I think the power of diplomacy can help,” he said in his interview with BBC.
Instead, he advocated for the power of diplomacy, suggesting that a weakened Russia on the battlefield would bolster Ukraine’s negotiating position.
“By applying international pressure on Russia, a diplomatic agreement could be achieved,” he stated.
Last month, Switzerland and Ukraine organized a Summit on Peace for Ukraine, which Russia did not attend as it was not invited. Since then, Zelenskyy has expressed that Russia should be included in a second peace summit scheduled for November.
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War assert that Ukraine’s demands in the peace plan are justified, whereas Russia’s demands violate international law.
