Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended his condolences following a devastating plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Korea, which claimed the lives of over 100 people.

In a statement shared on X (Twitter), Zelenskyy described the event as a “horrific tragedy” and offered sympathies on behalf of Ukraine.

“Tragic news of a devastating Jeju Air accident at Muan International Airport in Muan County, Republic of Korea, claiming so many lives. Each life lost is an immeasurable tragedy,” Zelenskyy wrote. He conveyed his condolences to the victims' families, the people of South Korea, and Acting President Choi Sang-mok.

“We share your sorrow and stand with the Korean people in this time of grief.,” the Ukrainian leader added.

The incident occurred early on December 29, involving a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 flying from Thailand. The aircraft reportedly failed to deploy its landing gear properly during touchdown, veered off the runway, collided with the airport structure, and caught fire.

The aircraft was carrying 181 individuals, including six crew members. Official reports confirm that two individuals survived, while at least 124 fatalities have been verified. Others are reported as missing.

Local authorities and rescue teams are conducting operations at the crash site. Initial investigations suggest a potential landing gear malfunction, possibly caused by a bird strike. The exact cause remains under investigation.
