The airline company Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) announced that it will suspend flights from the capital Baku to several Russian cities starting December 28, according to APA media and RIA Novosti .
According to APA, citing a statement from AZAL, in light of the preliminary investigation into the Embraer 190 crash and potential flight safety risks, AZAL, following the decision of the Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Agency, will suspend flights from Baku to several Russian airports starting December 28, 2024, until the final investigation is concluded.
“AZAL has announced that starting December 28, it will suspend flights from Baku to Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Grozny, Mineralnye Vody, and Makhachkala,“ wrote RIA Novosti.
Previously, sources within the Azerbaijani government exclusively confirmed to Euronews on Thursday, December 26, that a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash in Aktau on December 25, killing 38 people and leaving 29 survivors injured.
Additionally, according to Azerbaijani media outlet Caliber on December 26, Russian electronic warfare systems completely disabled the Azerbaijani aircraft's communication systems, leaving it effectively blind and causing it to vanish from radar while in Russian airspace.
