Zelenskyy Imposes Sanctions on Chinese Companies Over Alleged Weapons Supplies to Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted sanctions against three Chinese companies allegedly involved in supplying military-related materials to Russia, amid growing concerns over China’s role in supporting the Kremlin’s war efforts against Ukraine.
According to the presidential decree published on April 18, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) approved targeted economic and restrictive measures against the following entities:
Beijing Aviation and Aerospace Xianghui Technology Co. Ltd. – a company specializing in the import and export of aerospace technologies. It has reportedly exported carbon fiber and electronic components to Russia. Carbon fiber is used in the production of drones, missile casings, aircraft, and armored equipment.
Zhongfu Shenying Carbon Fiber Xining Co. Ltd. – one of China’s leading manufacturers of high-performance carbon fiber.
Rui Jin Machinery Co. Ltd. – a manufacturer of industrial packaging equipment.
In total, the NSDC sanctioned 56 legal entities, including Russian arms manufacturers and Belarusian firm SvetlogorskKhimvolokno, alongside the three Chinese firms. Additionally, 39 Russian nationals were included in the sanctions list.
The move follows statements made by President Zelenskyy on April 17, in which he stated that China of supplying Russia with military goods, including gunpowder and artillery. He also claimed that Chinese personnel are involved in weapons production on Russian territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has been instructed to notify the European Union, the United States, and other partner states of the decision, and to initiate consultations regarding the introduction of similar sanctions by allied governments.
These assertions come shortly after Ukraine confirmed the capture of Chinese nationals allegedly fighting alongside Russian forces.
