On April 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during a press briefing that Ukrainian intelligence has received new information indicating that China may be supplying Russia with military materials, including gunpowder and artillery.

He also noted that Chinese entities are reportedly involved in weapons manufacturing on Russian territory.

“We now have confirmation from our intelligence services that China is supplying the Russian Federation with weapons-related materials. At this stage, it’s general information from our Security Service and other intelligence agencies — gunpowder, artillery,” said Zelenskyy. “We expect to provide more detailed findings next week.”

The President expressed disappointment over the development, recalling a previous conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which Xi assured him that China would not sell or deliver weapons to Russia.

“Unfortunately, we are seeing different information today. We already have evidence of cooperation between China and Russia that strengthens Russia’s defense capacity, and that is deeply concerning,” Zelenskyy said. Relevant documentation, he added, will be shared in the coming days.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing new strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The President made the remarks during a meeting with energy workers.
