Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia is preparing new strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The President made the remarks during a meeting with energy workers, in a video shared on his social media accounts on April 17.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine managed to get through this winter without a blackout.

“It was difficult—there were many threats, outages, and losses. But Ukraine preserved its energy system—unified and operational. That is an extraordinary achievement by our people—by the people themselves,” the President emphasized.

However, he added, this doesn’t mean the threat has passed.

“We know what Russia is preparing for. We have intelligence from our security services. Both now—around Easter—and after, further strikes by Russia are possible. We will continue to defend our country and our energy sector,” Zelenskyy said.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, stated that Russia has violated the energy ceasefire more than 30 times, damaging energy infrastructure, as reported by Interfax on April 16.

The US-mediated energy ceasefire agreement, aimed at halting attacks on energy and port infrastructure, came into effect on March 25.

April 11 also marked one month since Russia rejected a full interim ceasefire proposed by the United States. Ukraine had unconditionally accepted the proposal during talks in Jeddah on March 11, while Russia refused, insisting on its own set of conditions.
