The Italian government has transferred the first installment of 25 million euros (approximately $28.3 million) to support the rebuilding of Ukraine’s war-damaged energy infrastructure.

The Italian Embassy in Ukraine confirmed to the Kyiv Independent on April 16 that this funding is part of a broader initiative totaling €200 million (around $227 million), co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The disbursed funds are directed to Ukrhydroenergo, Ukraine’s state-owned energy company, which will use the financing to implement urgent measures aimed at restoring energy access, reinforcing critical power grids, and ensuring the delivery of essential services in the regions most affected by the war.

“This first financing is a concrete signal of Italy’s strong support for Ukraine’s energy sector, which has been severely tested by the war,” said Carlo Formosa, Italy’s Ambassador to Ukraine.

The initiative is part of a larger Italian assistance package worth 125 million euros (approximately $142 million), focused on energy security and Ukraine’s broader reconstruction efforts.

The aid is being delivered in coordination with Ukrainian institutions and international partners.

“The country’s recovery begins with light, heat, and basic services that unite communities and make them resilient,” Formosa added.
