Polish FM: Russian Strikes on Civilians Are a “Mocking Answer” to US-Led Ceasefire

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on April 14 condemned Russia’s latest deadly strikes on Ukrainian cities, accusing Moscow of ridiculing US-led ceasefire efforts.
“I just want to say how appalled I am by the latest spate of Russian attacks on Ukraine,” Sikorski said upon arriving at a European Union foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg.
“Ukraine unconditionally agreed to a ceasefire over a month ago. The heinous attacks on Kryvyi Rih and Sumy are Russia’s mocking answer.”
Sikorski also urged US President Donald Trump and his team to take concrete action.
“I hope that President Trump, the US administration see that the leader of Russia is mocking their goodwill, and I hope the right decisions are taken.”

On the morning of April 13, 2025, Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles at the city center of Sumy, Ukraine. The strike occurred during Palm Sunday when the streets were filled with civilians. According to Ukrainian officials, the attack killed at least 34 people, including two children, and injured 117 others, among them 15 children.
Earlier, on April 4, a Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih killed at least 19 people, including nine children. More than 70 people have been reported injured, though the exact number is still being confirmed.
April 11 marked one month since Russia refused to accept a full interim ceasefire proposed by the United States. On March 11, Ukraine unconditionally agreed to the proposal in Jeddah, but Russia rejected it, instead demanding conditions.
