Zelenskyy Meets Meloni in Rome to Coordinate Ukraine Peace Strategy and Aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, in Rome to discuss the ongoing diplomatic situation regarding the war in Ukraine.

According to the statement, published by Zelenskyy via X on December 9, the two leaders had a productive conversation on various aspects of the war and Ukraine’s efforts toward peace.

Zelenskyy acknowledged Italy's important role in contributing ideas and defining practical steps to bring about peace. He expressed his appreciation for Italy's continued support, which, he noted, is crucial for Ukraine. The discussion also focused on coordinating diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

“I also want to express my gratitude for the package of energy assistance, the necessary equipment—this is exactly what will support Ukrainian families, our people, children, and everyday life in our cities and communities, which continue to endure constant Russian attacks,“ he wrote.

Additionally, Zelenskyy thanked Italy for its solidarity and continued assistance in Ukraine's efforts to overcome the impact of the war.

Earlier the same day, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Pope Francis expressing appreciation for the ongoing humanitarian assistance provided by the Vatican.

During the audience, Zelenskyy and the Pope focused on the Vatican's role in mediation efforts, specifically concerning the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russian forces.

Previoulsy, the European Commission stated that elections in Ukraine should only be held when the necessary conditions are met, in response to US President Donald Trump's call for presidential elections in the country.
