Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that claims that Ukraine struck the Valdai residence of the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, were false and were being used to undermine emerging diplomatic momentum, according to his comments to journalists on December 30.

Zelenskyy said the allegation was “a fake” and suggested it may be linked in part to sanctions talk but was primarily driven by Russia’s opposition to what he described as a positive month of contacts between Ukrainian and US teams that culminated in his meeting with US President Donald Trump.

He said Ukraine’s national security advisers are due to work starting January 3, followed by meetings with European leaders at the leadership level, as Kyiv seeks further steps in January toward ending the war.

“I don’t know whether this is connected to the transfer of Tomahawks—I don’t want to fantasize,” Zelenskyy said.

“What is honestly hard to understand and unpleasant is that some representatives, like India, the Emirates and several other states, condemned supposedly our drone strikes on Putin’s residence, which did not happen. And where is their condemnation that all this time they have been hitting our children and killing people? I don’t hear India, to be honest, or the Emirates,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Ukraine’s foreign minister dismissed the Valdai-residence accusation as evidence-free and criticized some governments for reacting to an alleged strike while not issuing a comparable condemnation of Russia’s real attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
