Zelenskyy to Meet Macron and Address Assemblée Nationale in Paris on June 7

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday, June 7.

“As Russian strikes intensify on the front line and against energy infrastructure, the two presidents will discuss the situation on the ground,” the Elysée palace said on Tuesday June 4. The meeting between the two leaders is set to take place after the 80th anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings.

Upon his arrival, the Ukrainian president, will be greeted with military honors by France’s Armed Forces Minister, Sebastien Lecornu. Following the ceremony, he will embark on a visit to a facility owned by the Franco-German arms conglomerate KNDS, situated near Paris. This defense group manufactures artillery guns that have been deployed in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy and Macron are expected to discuss a range of topics, including security cooperation, economic relations, and strategies for promoting stability in Ukraine and the wider European context.

This meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to diplomatic dialogue and exploring avenues for collaboration. Given Ukraine’s persistent challenges, from security threats to economic uncertainties, the discussions between Zelenskyy and Macron hold significance for European security.

During the visit Zelenskyy will give a speech by at the National Assembly, the lower chamber of the French Parliament, and discussions with its president, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who made a visit to Ukraine in March.

The participation of other officials suggests a comprehensive agenda, covering regional security, bilateral ties, and potential paths to conflict resolution. The outcomes of these talks could have implications for the broader geopolitical landscape in Eastern Europe.

US President Joe Biden is also scheduled to meet Zelenskyy in Normandy, France, followed by another meeting during the G7 summit in Italy. The discussions will focus on Kyiv’s efforts in countering Russia.
