Following a briefing from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on April 20 that Russian forces violated their own declared “Easter truce” 2,935 times. He added that Ukraine’s response to Russia’s actions would be “symmetrical.”

“The total number of violations by the Russian army of Russia’s own ceasefire promise throughout the day reached 2,935. The highest number of shellings and assaults occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, Zelenskyy wrote on his official X account.

The president also noted that Russia’s promise of complete silence did not apply to the Kursk direction either.

Zelenskyy added that across the frontline, there were 96 Russian assaults, 1,882 instances of shelling on our positions, including 812 involving heavy weaponry, and over 950 instances of FPV drone use by Russian forces.

“This day was not enough for Moscow to respond either to the proposal for a full 30-day ceasefire after Easter, or to the proposal to at least extend the ceasefire in the sky, refraining from missile and drone strikes on civilian infrastructure, Zelenskyy stated.

“The nature of Ukraine’s actions will remain symmetrical: ceasefire will be met with ceasefire, and Russian strikes will be met with our own in defense. Actions always speak louder than words.”

On April 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia was attempting to create the impression of a general ceasefire, but in some areas, it continues localized offensives and inflicts losses on Ukrainian forces.

On Easter morning, the Russian forces attacked a humanitarian evacuation vehicle with FPV drones near Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region, violating their own declared “Easter truce.”
