Ukraine Creates Direct Line Between Combat Commanders and Arms Makers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a special meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff on July 20, bringing military commanders and domestic weapons manufacturers together for direct talks.
The gathering included the commander of the Air Assault Forces, commanders of the 10th, 11th, and 19th Army Corps, and representatives from the Khartiia and Azov units alongside domestic defense industry leaders, the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Finance, and intelligence services.

The discussion centered on practical matters, including direct feedback from combat units on supply delays, procurement challenges, additional funding, and contracting.
Officials and manufacturers examined the production and delivery of various drone systems, ground robotic platforms, long-range artillery ammunition, and other critical hardware for intense combat areas.
Participants agreed to establish a permanent interaction framework linking corps commanders, defense enterprises, and state agencies, which will be coordinated by the Ministry of Defense and the National Security and Defense Council.
Participants also addressed equipment defects identified under combat conditions. Zelenskyy emphasized that defense companies must respond quickly to operational feedback and resolve hardware flaws.
Similar meetings are scheduled for tomorrow with additional corps commanders to gather feedback from the entire military command structure. The insights from these discussions will be used to adjust specific elements of the national defense strategy and set priority tasks for weapons production and delivery.
Special attention was devoted to air defense capacity and diplomatic objectives. The president underscored the importance of preparing for potential developments in the coming months.
"Ukraine must enter August as strong as possible and be ready for various scenarios and Russian behavior in the autumn," Zelenskyy said.
On July 20, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense completed the development and testing of a new precision-guided munition named "Firefly," making the system ready for large-scale mass production.
The munition was designed to operate effectively at altitudes of up to 800 meters, allowing strike platforms to hit targets from a safe distance while maintaining high accuracy under heavy electronic warfare interference. To quickly expand manufacturing, defense authorities transferred technology rights to private enterprises and innovators in the Brave1 defense technology cluster.
During the first half of 2026, the ministry codified 1,184 new weapon models for the military, with over 90 percent produced domestically within Ukraine.
