NATO’s Military Committee visited Kyiv for the first time in eight years, bringing together military representatives from all 32 NATO member states for talks with Ukraine’s military leadership, according to NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone on October 7.

The delegation, led Cavo Dragone, visited the Ukrainian capital on October 6 and met with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi.

The visit followed a commitment Cavo Dragone made to Drapatyi after their meeting earlier this year. It also came several months after NATO’s North Atlantic Council visited Ukraine in June.

“After an eight-year absence, the NATO Military Committee is back in Kyiv for an official visit. And while we may not have been here physically, Ukraine has always been in our thoughts, discussions, decisions and subsequent actions—every single day,” Cavo Dragone said in a video address.

During the talks, the NATO representatives discussed Ukraine’s current military priorities and lessons gained during Russia’s war against Ukraine, including experience that could help the Alliance strengthen its preparedness for existing and future security threats.

Cavo Dragone said the delegation also sought an updated assessment of the battlefield situation from Drapatyi and discussed what additional steps NATO members could take to support Ukraine.

The 32 military representatives also visited the Wall of Remembrance in Kyiv to honor Ukrainian service members killed defending the country.

The trip marked the first visit by the NATO Military Committee to Kyiv since 2018. Drapatyi had announced plans for the committee’s return in August 2026 following his first meeting with Cavo Dragone.

Earlier, in March, a NATO military command delegation led by Admiral Pierre Vandier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, visited Ukraine for the first time since the start of the full-scale war, discussing Ukrainian participation in future NATO exercises and expanded military cooperation.
