According to the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, the strike targeted the 110/10 kV Moynaky substation on Internationalna Street in Yevpatoria. The facility serves as a key power distribution hub, reducing voltage for local electricity networks.

After the strike, a fire broke out at the substation. Yevpatoria and nearby settlements were left without electricity.

Crimean Wind also noted that the substation underwent a large-scale modernization in 2024 at a reported cost of 1 billion rubles (approximately $12.8 million). The upgrade included the replacement of power transformers and increased the facility's total capacity nearly fourfold to 126 MVA.

The reported strike follows a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks on July 8 that disrupted electricity and water supplies across large parts of occupied Crimea after six electrical substations and 53 military targets were hit.

Between July 1 and July 8, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck 50 energy facilities across occupied Crimea. Earlier operations had already targeted 12 substations, bringing the total number of affected energy sites to 37 by July 6.

The operation aligns with Ukraine's broader strategy of targeting Russia's military and logistical infrastructure. The 40-day campaign, approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and led by the Security Service of Ukraine, focuses on degrading Russia's defense capabilities through strikes on military facilities, logistics hubs, and key energy assets.
