Daily Update: Russia Loses 1,390 Troops and 57 Artillery Systems in One Day

Russian forces lost an estimated 1,390 troops, three tanks, and 57 artillery systems over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on August 21.
The latest figures bring Russia’s total estimated personnel losses since the start of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, to approximately 1,474,030.

According to the General Staff, Russian forces also lost five armored combat vehicles, two multiple launch rocket systems, four air defense systems, and 12 UGVs during the reporting period.
Ukraine additionally reported the destruction of 1,980 operational-tactical UAVs and 39 cruise missiles over the past day, as well as 551 vehicles and fuel tankers and eight pieces of special equipment.

Russia’s cumulative equipment losses are now estimated at 12,286 tanks, 25,170 armored combat vehicles, 48,318 artillery systems, 2,052 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,581 air defense systems, 439 aircraft, 354 helicopters, 2,333 UGVs, 472,849 operational-tactical UAVs, 5,049 cruise missiles, 35 ships and boats, two submarines, 137,369 vehicles and fuel tankers, and 4,559 pieces of special equipment.
Ukraine’s General Staff recorded 238 combat engagements across the front over the past 24 hours.
Earlier, reports emerged that Russia suffered nearly 43,000 battlefield casualties in July 2026, making it the Russian military’s highest monthly loss figure since January 2025, while Ukrainian forces recorded their largest territorial gains in more than a year.
