Forget Mordor—Ukraine’s Frodo Ground Robot Heads Into Battle With a 150-Km Range

Ukrainian defense company Frontline Robotics has unveiled Frodo, a six-wheeled unmanned ground vehicle designed for logistics, evacuation, and combat missions, Militarnyi reported on September 30.

Frodo uses a 6×6 wheel configuration and can reach a top speed of 40 kilometers per hour. The developer lists its standard payload at up to 200 kilograms, rising to a maximum of 400 kilograms, while its range can extend to 150 kilometers.
For off-road mobility, the vehicle is equipped with independent adaptive suspension and adjustable ground clearance of between 170 and 330 millimeters, Militarnyi reported. A low center of gravity improves stability, while the chassis allows Frodo to remain mobile even if one of its wheels is lost.
Frontline Robotics said the vehicle’s batteries can be replaced by a single service member. Frodo can also operate through several communication channels, including Starlink, LTE, Silvus, ELRS, and TBS.
According to Militarnyi, Frodo has already completed codification, allowing it to be procured for Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“We see the future battlefield as a robotic environment where it is critically important to control not only the air but also the ground. If drones have already changed the principles of warfare in the air, ground robotics is now going through the same stage of development on the ground,” Frontline Robotics CEO Yevhen Tretiak said.
The unveiling comes as Ukrainian forces increasingly integrate ground robots into battlefield operations. On September 24, Ukraine’s Third Army Corps reported what it described as the first-ever assault involving unmanned ground vehicles delivered into combat by heavy bomber drones during Operation Vivaldi.
Heavy drones operated by the Third Assault Brigade transported NC13 strike ground robots, known as “Gryphons,” more than 10 kilometers behind Russian positions before deploying them for the attack.
According to the corps, onboard cameras recorded the operation, which killed and wounded Russian troops in an area where they had not anticipated an attack involving ground robots.
