Lukashenko Orders Special Forces Spread Along Ukraine Border, Says It’s “For Security”

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said he ordered special operations units to disperse along the country’s border with Ukraine, claiming the deployment was intended to provide security rather than prepare for offensive action.
Lukashenko made the statement during a government conference call, footage of which was published by the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo on July 22.

According to Lukashenko, the special forces units have been positioned along Belarus’ southern border under his direct orders.
He also proposed sending citizens accused of violating what the government calls labor discipline into military service. After brief training, he said, they could be assigned to special operations units stationed near Ukraine.
“Everyone who does not know how to work—send them to the army and to the southern border. Into the forest: our guys are there. The Special Operations Forces, on my orders, have been dispersed along the Ukrainian border,” Lukashenko said.

Handcuffs are unnecessary for lazy officials, the Belarusian dictator said.
From now on, officials who perform poorly will be sent to the army and then deployed to Belarus' southern border.

He suggested that the same approach should be applied to government officials who fail to carry out assigned tasks.
Lukashenko’s remarks come amid increased Belarusian military activity near the Ukrainian border, including the construction of road infrastructure, ammunition storage facilities, and fuel and lubricant depots.
This is not the first time Belarus has deployed special operations units near Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale war of aggression. Minsk has repeatedly moved forces toward the border while insisting the deployments were defensive.
Previously, Belarusian authorities expanded the militarization of secondary education by sending high school students to mandatory multi-day military-patriotic camps under a 2026 order issued by the Mogilev City Executive Committee’s education department.
