Ukraine will “mirror” any actions taken by Belarus, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said, according to hromadske correspondent on June 26.

Speaking to journalists, Sybiha stressed that while Kyiv does not currently expect Belarus to take direct part in Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities are closely monitoring all potential threats emanating from Belarusian territory.

“We proceed from the assumption that they will not allow themselves to be drawn into this war. Because Ukraine will respond in a ‘mirror’ way. I think the Lukashenko regime understands this,” the minister said.

Sybiha added that Ukrainian intelligence and other security agencies are closely tracking developments in Belarus in the context of potential risks to Ukraine.

“This includes changes in legislation, changes in the structure of military units and districts, changes in the numerical parameters of military presence along the Ukrainian border. It also includes planned joint activities with the Russians and the use of Belarusian infrastructure for attacks on Ukraine,” he said.

The Foreign Minister noted that the President of Ukraine had officially warned about the situation and expressed confidence that the Belarusian side understood such warnings were not empty. He added that, when issued by the President of Ukraine, such statements were taken seriously and that a response was expected.

Just a day earlier, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko insisted that Minsk maintains a “peaceful” stance toward Ukraine, while warning that the nature of the war would change immediately if Kyiv attempted to involve Belarus in the war.

Lukashenko also referred to a recent meeting in Minsk with representatives of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that he had asked them to convey a warning to Kyiv.

“If in Kyiv they think they can talk to us this way and drag us into war, then the quality of this war will instantly change," he stated, adding that "this war will be completely different,” he stated.
