Russia Drops FAB-500 Bomb on Sloviansk, Destroying Part of Apartment Building, Injuring 4

Russian forces struck an apartment building in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, with a FAB-500 aerial bomb early on August 31, injuring four people and damaging dozens of residential buildings, local authorities reported.

Sloviansk Mayor Vadym Liakh said the Russian airstrike hit the city at around 4:20 a.m., with the impact recorded in the central part of Sloviansk.

The strike destroyed an entire section of a multi-story apartment building from the first through the fifth floor, as well as a private house. At least 32 other apartment buildings, a hotel, a kindergarten, and a vehicle were also damaged, according to the mayor.

The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office said four residents between the ages of 61 and 66 were injured while inside their homes.

The victims sustained blast-related injuries, bruises, and lacerations and are receiving medical treatment, prosecutors said.

Law enforcement authorities reported that the strike damaged a total of 34 apartment and private residential buildings, as well as six vehicles.

The attack on Sloviansk came amid further Russian strikes elsewhere in Ukraine. In the Bucha district of Kyiv region, at least 38 people were killed and another 20 injured after Russian forces struck an enterprise, triggering a subsequent detonation.

Emergency medical teams provided assistance to all those affected, with seven of the injured requiring hospitalization.
