More Than 350 Ukrainian Drones Flew Toward Moscow Region Overnight, Mayor Says

Ukrainian drones flew toward Moscow and the surrounding region overnight from September 17 to 18, in an attack that Russian officials characterized as one of the largest of its kind in years.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that more than 350 drones were headed for the Moscow region during the overnight period, which stretched from 8 p.m. on September 17 to 7 a.m. the following morning.

In a post on Telegram, Sobyanin stated that 64 drones had been "destroyed on approach to Moscow."

Ukrainian outlet RBC-Ukraine separately reported that no official information had been released regarding possible damage caused by debris from the intercepted drones.

The strike was part of Ukraine’s broader campaign against targets inside Russia in response to Moscow’s full-scale invasion and continued attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Ukrainian forces have increasingly used long-range drones to reach military, logistics, energy, and other facilities supporting Russia’s war effort.

The overnight barrage followed a series of escalating Ukrainian drone operations against the Russian capital region in recent weeks.

On August 16, roughly 600 drones were recorded heading toward the Moscow region over a 24-hour period, the largest such tally since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Two days later, on August 18, more than 150 drones targeted the region overnight, with 93 reported intercepted over the capital and a Wildberries logistics center struck near Atlant-Park.
