Russia Plans 11,000 Strike Drones in August as It Expands Faster Geran-4, Geran-5 UAVs

Russia’s military-industrial complex plans to produce 11,000 strike drones in August, with production focused on several Geran, Harpy, and Gerbera variants.
In an RBC-Ukraine’s interview with deputy chief of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) Vadym Skibitskyi, the official said that Russia’s production plans for the month include the Geran-1, Geran-2, Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5 strike drones, as well as Harpy, Gerbera, Gerbera strike, and Gerbera seeker variants.

Skibitskyi said Russia partially reduced the intensity of its drone attacks and lowered production volumes in July as it reconfigured its manufacturing capacity. The adjustment is aimed at increasing production of the turbojet-powered Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones.
According to RBC-Ukraine, turbojet-powered drones accounted for 50% of the UAVs used in one of Russia’s recent attacks against Ukraine. This shift creates additional challenges for Ukrainian air defenses, which require interceptors capable of operating at higher speeds or additional short-range air defense systems.
“If we talk about the Geran-4 and Geran-5, they have a problem with turbojet engines: they are trying to produce their own. At the moment, they are completely dependent on China for the supply of such engines, and they are expensive—each costs around $35,000–$40,000,” Skibitskyi said.
The development comes as Russia has also already met its annual production target for Zircon and Oniks missiles, manufacturing 33 Zircon and 60 Oniks missiles during the first seven months of 2026.
The production targets for both missile types, established under Russia’s state defense procurement program, had been reached by August 3, according to the report.
