Russia Says Mystery Buyers Are Lining Up for Its Su-57E Fighter Ahead of Egypt Airshow

Russia says it has secured new export contracts for the Su-57E fighter ahead of an international airshow in Egypt, but has not disclosed which countries are buying the aircraft, how many jets are involved, or the value of the agreements.

According to Defence Blog on September 7, Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev announced the contracts ahead of the El Alamein International Airshow, scheduled for September 8–10. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.
Mikheev said interest in Russian military aircraft has increased in Africa and the Middle East because of their battlefield use, though he did not provide specific combat data.
Russia plans to demonstrate the Su-57E in flight and on static display at the airshow. United Aircraft Corporation will also unveil two weapons intended for fifth-generation aircraft—the S-71M warhead delivery platform and the S-71K aerial bomb.
“Northern Africa is one of the important regions for promoting our products,” UAC CEO Vadim Badekha said, according to TASS, as cited by Defence Blog.
The Su-57 has largely operated away from the Ukrainian front line, primarily launching cruise missiles from stand-off distances rather than regularly entering contested airspace, Defence Blog reported.
In June 2024, Ukraine’s military intelligence said a Su-57 was struck by Ukrainian drones while parked at the Akhtubinsk airfield in Russia’s Astrakhan region. Researchers at the Royal United Services Institute estimated that the temporary loss of one aircraft could represent about 5% of Russia’s operational Su-57 fleet.
In October 2024, footage also appeared to show a Su-57 shooting down Russia’s own S-70 Okhotnik combat drone near Kostiantynivka in Ukraine’s Donetsk region after the drone reportedly lost contact with its operator. Ukrainian forces later recovered the wreckage.
