Switzerland will fund eight extra projects run by Swiss companies to support the reconstruction of Ukraine, following a decision by the Swiss Federal Council on October 2.

The total funding for these initiatives amounts to 135 million Swiss francs, which is approximately $162 million. The projects target Ukraine's energy, public transport, and water management sectors.

The primary goal of these initiatives is to supply Ukraine with Swiss products and expertise to meet immediate needs.

Additionally, these projects aim to preserve and create jobs while improving the skill levels of local specialists through targeted training and the application of Swiss experience.

The Swiss government selected these programs through a competition among Swiss companies that operate subsidiaries in Ukraine. Participating firms submitted initiatives with budgets ranging between 3 million and 30 million Swiss francs. All proposals address urgent local priorities and will be implemented directly on the ground.

A set of criteria established by both Ukrainian and Swiss authorities was used to evaluate the project proposals.

These criteria covered relevance, technical feasibility, potential impact, risks, and cost efficiency. Winning companies must co-finance at least 10% of their project's total cost, and the final list of initiatives was approved in coordination with the Ukrainian government.

Previously, during his visit to Kyiv on the 975th anniversary of the monastery complex’s founding, Jacques Gerber, the Swiss Federal Council’s Delegate for Ukraine, announced on X that Switzerland and UNESCO were allocating $730,000 to protect and restore the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra following damage caused by a Russian strike on June 15, 2026.
