Ukraine Blinds Russia’s Shahed Launch Hub With Strike on $100 Million Radar, Video

Ukrainian drones struck a Russian Nebo-U radar station at the Millerovo military airfield in Russia’s Rostov region, a facility used to launch Shahed drones and other UAVs against Ukraine, the 429th Achilles Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade said on August 27.

The brigade’s long-range strike company targeted the radar at the airfield roughly 170 kilometers, or 105 miles, from the front line.

According to the Ukrainian unit, a Nebo-U radar is valued at approximately $100 million.

Millerovo serves as one of the Russian military’s launch points for Shahed-type attack drones as well as other strike and decoy UAVs. The brigade said drones launched from the airfield are regularly used to attack Ukraine’s eastern, central and northern regions.

“The long-range strike company of the 429th Achilles Brigade struck a Nebo-U radar at the Millerovo airfield in the Rostov region. The estimated cost of a Nebo-U is $100 million,” the brigade said.

The Nebo-U is a long-range Russian radar designed to detect and track aerial targets over large distances, making it an important component of Russia’s broader air surveillance network.

Its reported destruction or damage could reduce Russia’s ability to monitor Ukrainian aircraft and drones around the strategically important airfield.

The Ukrainian brigade described the strike as part of a broader effort to establish sustained fire control over Millerovo and repeatedly hit infrastructure used to support Russian aerial attacks.

“We are establishing fire control over the Millerovo military airfield in Russia’s Rostov region, 170 kilometers from the line of contact. From here, the enemy regularly launches Shaheds and other types of strike and decoy drones.”

Previously, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian missile unit along with airfields, oil facilities, military infrastructure and logistics sites as part of a sweeping long-range operation that hit 16 targets inside Russia over the past 24 hours.
