The 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade has been officially recognized in the National Register of Records of Ukraine for its extraordinary 1500-Day defense of Mala Tokmachka, the brigade reported on May 24.
Mala Tokmachka is a frontline village that has become one of the longest-held defensive positions in the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Oleh Ivanenko, head of the supervisory board for the Book of Records of Ukraine, presented the brigade’s command with a diploma certifying the national record. The award honors the unit’s vital contribution to holding the sector and repelling daily enemy attacks.
Ukrainian Defense Forces have continuously controlled the Mala Tokmachka direction in the Zaporizhzhia region for over 1,500 days. The brigade has maintained these positions under relentless pressure from Russian infantry assaults, heavy artillery fire, aviation bombings, and drone strikes, the brigade stated.
“In reality, the national record is merely a statement of fact for history,” the 118th Brigade said in an official statement regarding the milestone. “The true reward for our titans is every saved meter of Ukrainian land.”

The brigade concluded its announcement by extending honors and respect to all soldiers and military units that have held, and continue to defend, the strategic lines around Mala Tokmachka.
The 118th Brigade’s record-breaking defense centers on a small but strategically vital village that has become a dead end for Russian forces. It was previously reported that, aided by elevated terrain and fortified infrastructure, Ukrainian troops have inflicted over 2,000 Russian casualties in the sector, including decimating a massive armored assault in October 2025.
The village’s resilience has also humiliated Moscow’s propaganda machine. After Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov falsely claimed its complete capture in November 2025, continued heavy fighting quickly exposed the lie, earning the Ukrainian defenders the legendary moniker “the cyborgs of Mala Tokmachka.”
