Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian Warships and Kalibr Carriers at Black Sea Port

Ukrainian defense forces struck Russia’s naval base and oil shipping facilities in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, targeting military harbor assets, warships, and Kalibr missile carriers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on September 9.

“We are responding to Russia’s daily terrorist strikes—effectively and practically across its entire geography,” Zelenskyy stated, confirming that over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces achieved concrete “results in Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar region.”

Detailing the scope of the joint operation, Zelenskyy confirmed that multiple high-value targets were hit within the strategic port complex. “A naval base was hit: a terminal involved in oil shipment, military harbor facilities, warships, and Kalibr carriers,” he reported.

The Ukrainian President credited the successful long-range strike to a coordinated effort across several branches of Ukraine’s security and defense forces. “I thank the warriors of the SBU, SBS, Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, HUR, and DPSU for their accuracy,” Zelenskyy said.

Concluding his statement, Zelenskyy highlighted the strategic role of Ukraine’s expanding deep-tier strike program in targeting Russian military logistics. “I thank everyone who develops the potential of our long-range sanctions, so that the Russian war is increasingly felt right where it came from,” he added.

Before official confirmation, GEOINT analysis by Militarnyi and NASA FIRMS satellite imagery pinpointed initial strike damage to the Novorossiysk Fuel Oil Terminal, where geolocated footage showed at least one petroleum storage tank ablaze.

The targeted facility serves as a major commercial logistics node with an annual throughput capacity of 4 million metric tons, though Novorossiysk Mayor Andrei Kravchenko initially claimed the impact was caused by “falling debris” from overnight air defense engagements.
