Zelenskyy Says Canada Sent Major Air Defense Package as Ukraine Runs Short on Interceptors

Canada has provided Ukraine with a major assistance package to strengthen air defense, and part of the new supply is already on its way, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ankara, according to a UNITED24 Media correspondent on July 7.
Zelenskyy acknowledged that Ukraine is currently facing a shortage of interceptors for air defense systems, though he did not disclose specific details.

“Right now, we have a major, perhaps even the biggest, shortage in air defense. At the same time, we have received a large package from Canada. We are grateful to you for this,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader did not specify which systems or munitions Canada had provided, but said another delivery is expected soon.

“We are grateful for this supply, and it is good that some other new elements are already on the way,” he added.
Carney briefly confirmed the delivery of the assistance.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said he would hold urgent talks with counterparts from countries that possess stocks of Patriot air defense missiles, urging them to transfer interceptors to Kyiv following Russia’s latest large-scale missile attack.
According to the Minister, Russia is launching ballistic missiles at a faster rate than Patriot interceptors are currently being produced worldwide.
