75% of Poles Favor Security Cooperation With Ukraine Against Russia Over Historical Disputes

An overwhelming majority of Polish citizens believe Poland and Ukraine should prioritize defense cooperation against Russian aggression over historical disputes, according to a CBOS  survey reported by Polish Radio for Ukraine on July 23.

Eighty percent of respondents expressed conviction that Russia directly benefits from conflicts between Poland and Ukraine. In comparison, 73 percent stated that politicians in both countries exploit historical disagreements to advance their own political interests, Polish Radio for Ukraine wrote.

At the same time, the survey highlights persistent sensitivities surrounding political and symbolic matters between the two neighboring nations. Fifty-nine percent of respondents voiced support for a decision by Polish President Karol Nawrocki to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

The survey was conducted by the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS) between July 2 and July 12, 2026, sampling 938 adult residents across Poland, as detailed by Polish Radio for Ukraine.

The poll comes as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously called for an immediate end to xenophobic attacks targeting Ukrainians in Poland, warning that hate crimes directly serve Russian interests.
