Starting September 1, 2026, Latvia will enforce a broad ban on the import of a wide range of industrial products from Russia and Belarus.

These restrictions will apply both to direct shipments and to deliveries arriving through third-party countries, according to Delfi.

The Latvian government officially confirmed the exact date for the measures during a cabinet meeting on August 25, following earlier parliamentary support for the trade restrictions at the end of July.

The restricted list covers a large selection of consumer items and finished products. Under the new regulations, Latvia will prohibit the import of printed books, newspapers, and other printed matter.

The measure also restricts clothing, footwear, headwear, and other finished textile items, alongside toys, games, and sports equipment. These items will remain banned even if manufactured in Russia or Belarus and brought into Latvia indirectly.

The primary objective of the policy is to safeguard national security interests. Officials also intend to significantly lower export revenues flowing into the state budgets of Russia and Belarus, while completely blocking the entry of Russian propaganda materials into the country.

Earlier, Ukraine became a key focus of Lithuania's revised National Security Strategy for 2026, according to an analysis released by Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service.

The draft strategy, developed by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense, clearly outlines that European security cannot be ensured without a sovereign, independent, and secure Ukraine, fully integrated into the Euro-Atlantic community.
