A series of alarming incidents involving vehicles occurred in Moscow and the Moscow region on June 9, 2026. Authorities recorded three separate cases involving explosive devices or vehicle detonations throughout the day. The most tragic event took place early in the morning in the town of Balashikha, where a vehicle explosion resulted in a fatality.

While various independent sources and social media channels have identified the victim as Damir Davydov, a senior official at the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense, this information has not yet been officially confirmed by state authorities, as reported by The Moscow Times.

According to witnesses, the blast occurred as the driver entered his BMW X3 SUV and attempted to pull out of a parking space. Although bystanders managed to pull the man from the burning vehicle, he could not be saved. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the detonation of an explosive device, noting that the vehicle had been purchased in 2024 from a businessman in the Vladimir region.

Later in the day, law enforcement agencies responded to reports in other parts of the capital. In the afternoon, a Zeekr electric car parked at the intersection of Butlerova and Vvedenskogo streets in the Konkovo district of southwest Moscow caught fire.

While initial reports suggested an engine fire, officials from the Investigative Committee later stated that a "suspicious object" had been discovered under the vehicle, which was subsequently neutralized through a controlled detonation.

By the evening, the security concerns extended to the "Nebo" shopping center in the Solntsevo district of western Moscow. At approximately 6:00 p.m., the facility was evacuated following the discovery of a "suspicious object" under the undercarriage of a parked car. Police, firefighters, ambulances, and military specialists cordoned off the area.

Previously, Atesh partisan operatives claimed responsibility for a sabotage operation in the Moscow region on May 17, 2026, which reportedly disrupted components of the air defense network protecting the Russian capital.

The group stated that its members damaged several communication towers in Putilkovo, Kommunarka, and Domodedovo that housed electronic warfare modules used to monitor low-flying targets and coordinate air defense units.

According to the movement, the action caused the air defense system around Moscow to lose observation capabilities on the near approaches to the city, which they argued led to a drop in reaction speed and left some routes uncovered.
