A Lamborghini registered to Russian copper magnate Igor Altushkin crashed into a residential building in Yekaterinburg city, injuring a war veteran who was on crutches, Astra reported on August 11.

The purple sports car, valued at roughly 40 million rubles ($482,000), struck the building on Otradnaya Street at high speed.

According to Telegram channels Baza and Shot, the driver was David Altushkin, the younger son of Igor Altushkin, founder of the Russian Copper Company. The vehicle is officially registered to the father.

Two men were sitting on the building’s porch at the moment of impact. Witnesses said one of them had recently returned from the frontline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine for medical treatment in Yekaterinburg and was moving on crutches. He was hospitalized with rib fractures, a closed head injury, and multiple contusions.

Independent outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti, cited by Astra, identified the injured man as possibly Timur Khalilov, a 23-year-old boxer who was arrested in 2025 on kidnapping charges involving a resident of Samara; the outlet reported that he is believed to have signed a contract with Russia’s Defense Ministry during his arrest and was subsequently sent to fight.

The second man did not require hospitalization. Two electric scooters were also destroyed in the crash; it remains unclear whether their riders were injured.

David Altushkin himself sustained a head injury, reportedly including a broken nose and chest bruising. In footage from the scene, he is seen smiling while speaking with police officers; he declined to comment to Telegram channels.

According to Shot, two teenagers were also in the car at the time of the crash, and the Lamborghini had been traveling with a black SUV carrying security personnel, who covered the wrecked vehicle with black fabric after the collision. Citing data from the Mash outlet, Astra reported that the car has accumulated 16 speeding violations.

Igor Altushkin is often referred to as an “Orthodox oligarch,” having financed the construction and restoration of churches in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region, Astra wrote.

Forbes has estimated his net worth at $4.9 billion. His wife and one of his sons hold British citizenship. Altushkin was added to the European Union’s sanctions list in 2024.

The crash comes as Russia’s system for treating wounded soldiers remains strained. Military hospitals could no longer absorb war casualties, as Russia’s Defense Ministry was recently forced to convert civilian facilities nationwide.

In Omsk, officials shut down a maternity hospital and a women’s clinic to open military ones in their place. In contrast, Moscow’s only cystic fibrosis hospital and a Rostov-on-Don maternity ward were reportedly repurposed the same way.
