Ukraine’s Security Service Blocks 50+ Fake Resources Used in Russian Influence Operations

Russian intelligence services have significantly intensified efforts to create fake websites and social media pages that clone official Ukrainian government institutions and domestic media outlets, according to a warning issued by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on September 28.
The SBU reported that these counterfeit platforms are being deployed in coordinated information-psychological operations (IPSO) to destabilize Ukraine’s domestic socio-political situation and erode its standing on the international stage.

Beyond spreading targeted disinformation, Russian operatives are using the fake channels to harvest personal data from Ukrainian citizens. According to the SBU, the Russian hackers frequently compromise the accounts of users who follow or interact with these malicious pages.
They subsequently use the stolen credentials for recruitment operations and gathering sensitive intelligence—with a particular focus on the combat activities of Ukraine’s Defense and Security Forces.
In response to the threat, the SBU’s Cyber Security Department revealed that it has already identified and blocked more than 50 fraudulent online resources that specifically imitated the official branding and positioning of the SBU itself.
Urging citizens to exercise heightened vigilance, the SBU advised the public to rely exclusively on official state channels, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and report any fraudulent communications claiming to originate from security personnel to official hotlines.
Russian state-linked hackers known as Midnight Blizzard (GTG-20006) have also recently weaponized Anthropic’s Claude AI model to automate cyberespionage targeting over 20 Ukrainian and European government, military, and defense organizations.
According to an Anthropic threat intelligence report, the group used customized AI workflows to develop evasive malware, process bulk stolen communications, and reverse-engineer proprietary military drone software, highlighting a major escalation in AI-driven state espionage operations.
