Ratel R1: Ukraine Unveils New Drone Designed for Real-Time Reconnaissance in Electronic Warfare

Ukrainian defense company Ratel Robotics has unveiled the Ratel R1, a new unmanned aerial vehicle designed for reconnaissance and surveillance missions, with a stated flight range of up to 30 kilometers, the company announced on August 19.

According to the manufacturer, the Ratel R1 can reach a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour and remain airborne for up to 45 minutes. Its tactical operating radius is approximately 15 kilometers.

The drone is designed for aerial reconnaissance, observation, and fire adjustment, with an optical system intended to provide high-quality imagery during missions.

“The optical system ensures high-quality image transmission, while satellite communications provide a stable control and data transmission channel even in challenging electronic warfare conditions,” Ratel Robotics told Oboronka on September 1.

According to the outlet, the Ratel R1 has a maximum takeoff weight of 18 kilograms and is equipped with an IP IMX415 camera and a ViewPro A40 Pro observation camera. According to the manufacturer, communications are provided through Starlink Mini, while a CUAV 3 Pro GPS module is used for navigation.

The UAV also features a stabilized camera with optical zoom, allowing operators to detect and identify targets while maintaining a safe distance.

“The drone is designed for aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and fire adjustment. It is equipped with a stabilized camera with multiple zoom levels, allowing targets to be detected and identified from a safe distance,” the company said.

Recently, Ukrainian forces have been supplied with the Kaban remote-control system, which enables standard civilian and military vehicles to be operated as unmanned ground vehicles without structural modifications.
