Ukraine New Kaban System Turns Standard Vehicles Into Unmanned Combat Drones

Ukrainian forces have received the Kaban remote vehicle control system, which can convert conventional civilian and military vehicles into unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) without requiring structural modifications, Ukrainian defense outlet Militarnyi reported on August 26.
According to the developer, the systems have been delivered to Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps, the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Achilles,” and the 49th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Kaban is a comprehensive remote-control platform designed for installation on different types of vehicles. The system allows operators to quickly switch between remote and conventional manual driving, enabling vehicles to retain their standard functionality.
Starlink serves as the primary communications channel, while the platform also supports analog video transmission and radio control. If communications are lost, Kaban automatically brings the unmanned vehicle to an emergency stop.
The system incorporates a digital map that allows operators to create routes and place markers. It also features a driver-assistance function that displays the vehicle’s projected trajectory.
According to the manufacturer, vehicles equipped with Kaban can be fitted with additional equipment depending on their mission, including infrared cameras, searchlights, net launchers, and platforms for deploying drones, the outlet reported.
Kaban-equipped vehicles can be used for casualty evacuation, cargo transportation, resupplying frontline positions, and other logistics missions. The developer said the primary objective is to reduce the need for Ukrainian personnel to physically travel through the most dangerous sections of frontline routes.
Kaban is being developed with support from Ukraine’s Brave1 defense technology cluster. According to Militarnyi, the system has already been successfully employed in several combat operations.
The deployment comes as Ukraine increasingly integrates unmanned ground systems into frontline operations, extending their use beyond logistics and evacuation to direct combat missions.
In a separate operation, Ukrainian troops recently used an armed UGV to attack a Russian-held position without exposing soldiers to direct fire, reportedly killing 20 Russian troops, according to Ukrainian defense technology company DevDroid.
The August operation was carried out by Ukraine’s 44th Separate Mechanized Brigade using DevDroid’s Droid TW-12.7 combat UGV, the company said in an August 21 press release.
